A life-long resident of Randolph County, Keith Sloan was born on December 30, 1989 to Rusty and Melba Sloan. While growing up Keith spent time on his grandparents farm helping with his grandfathers cattle, and learning the value of hard work. He also spent a lot of time with his great aunt who instilled in him his love of History.
At the age of 11, his family began to raise chickens for Townsends Inc. To earn extra money, Keith helped his dad on the weekends with the chicken houses. Working with his dad, he began to learn how laws and politics affect the working people of the United States. He also heard different views on the issues from the neighbors who gathered at local stores to eat and talked about what was going on that day. He learned that people want a politician to represent them, not special interest groups.
Keith attended school in Pocahontas and graduated from Pocahontas High School in May 2008. While in school he was a member of the Pocahontas Band, Pocahontas FFA, and Pocahontas Library Club. In these organizations he worked with others for the betterment of the group and helped in many community functions. Keith is now attending Black River Technical College, where he is getting prerequisites for a degree in History and Political Science. Keith is also employed at Wal-Mart in Pocahontas, where the value of hard work taught to him by his parents and grandparents has been put to use.
Keith is an active member of New Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, where he teaches the teen Sunday school class.
